Riverside Marketplace Specific Plan
Client: City of Riverside
One of the major transformations in the City of Riverside is due to The Arroyo Group’s long-term work in the Riverside Marketplace area. These planning efforts defined revitalization concepts for the Marketplace, a 200-acre area at the edge of Downtown Riverside that had been virtually abandoned for decades. The adoption of the Marketplace Specific Plan helped the City obtain nearly $10 million in federal EDA, UDAG and CBDG funding, which resulted in major redevelopment per the recommendations of the plan, including the removal of many severely blighted properties, preservation and adaptive reuse of several historic structures, and the provision of infrastructure improvements. A decade later, the specific plan was updated to address the development of the Metrolink Commuter Rail Line connecting Riverside to Los Angeles and the explosive growth of the Inland Empire. This update incorporated a strategy for transit-oriented development around the Metrolink station.
